Audrey (McGill) Butcher, 63, of Goshen, Indiana, died early Friday morning, August 16, 2024, after an unexpected illness and hospitalization.
Audrey was born on Nov. 9, 1960, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to the late John (Dora) McGill and Audrey Virginia Prater. She grew up in Hammond, Indiana, where she attended Spohn Middle School and Hammond Tech High School. She swam on the swim team in middle school. In 1996, she moved to the South Bend, Indiana, area.
Audrey is survived by three children: her caregiver and daughter, LaTasha (Jeffrey) Bosse of Granger, Indiana, and two sons, Eric (Grace Vasquez) Butcher of San Antonio, Texas, and Kyle Butcher of Michigan City, Indiana. Audrey is also survived by her granddaughters, Alyssa (Micah) Gilbert, Paige Bosse, Sindell and Harleen Butcher; one sister, Paula (Ronald) Bennett of Wheatfield, Indiana; and one brother, John (Linda) McGill of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Audrey worked in housekeeping at the Sisters of the Holy Cross, where she would share the honor she felt in caring for the Sisters and talked fondly about her work there for years to come. She also was employed at Motel 6 and Holiday Inn in South Bend, Indiana, for a number of years, leading housekeeping crews.
Audrey especially enjoyed the University of Notre Dame home games. She loved meeting all the visitors and would share fond stories about her guests. Audrey also loved watching football on TV and enjoyed talking about sports. She was especially proud of her children and grandchildren and called them her “pride and joy.” Audrey loved riding her bike, camping, and birdwatching. She was strong in her faith and loved God dearly.
A private memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Trinity on Jackson Church in Elkhart, Indiana. The family expresses gratitude for all of the monetary gifts received to honor Audrey. A donation will be made to SPA Women’s Ministries in her honor.
