Barbara Jean Chandler

Barbara Jean Chandler, 90, of Union, MI, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at her residence in Union, MI. She was born on July 16, 1934, in Elkhart, IN, to George R. and Ruby C. (Stump) Shepherd.

On April 20, 1957, in Roseland, IN, Barbara married Charles C. Chandler, Jr. He preceded her in death on April 4, 2011, in Union, MI. Surviving are four children, Sharon Chandler of Edwardsburg, MI; Peggy Jo (Bruce) Hall of Cassopolis, MI; Stanley Chandler of Cassopolis, MI; Charles Chandler III of Union, MI; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her father, George R. Shepherd, and her mother, Ruby C. Harter.

Barbara retired from Selmer Company in Elkhart, where she worked for many years. She was a member of the Cass County Conservation Club in Union, MI, and she enjoyed baking, reading, sewing, crafting, and even did some clowning.

Cremation will take place at Elkhart Cremation Services. There will be a celebration of life service for Barbara at the Chapel Hill Missionary Church, 14925 Chapel Hill Street, Union, MI, on Saturday, October 5, 2024. Visitation for family and friends will start at 10:00 a.m. and the service will start at 11:00 a.m. Pastors Jeff Snider and Steven Steele will preside. Graveside service and burial will follow at Kessington Cemetery. A dinner will be held at the church, following the graveside service.
