Beth Carlisle Nellist, 79, of Bristol, Indiana, died on August 7, 2024, at home.
She was born on March 30, 1945, to Imogene (Brenton) Carlisle and Charles Lowell Carlisle, of Petersburg, Indiana. After the death of Mr. Carlisle, Imogene married Ray Fields, whose son Jerry also joined the family.
Beth earned a Master of English degree at the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Business Administration degree at Indiana University.
She was employed as an English teacher at Elkhart Community Schools and subsequently worked in corporate communications at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis.
Beth married Wallace Edward Nellist on April 18, 1971, in Elkhart.
She is survived by her sister, Ann Carlisle Boltz of Green Bay, Wis.; her stepchildren, Howard Nellist (Cathern) of Elkhart, William (Catherine) Nellist of Rockville, Md., Brenda (Rick) Roberts of Elkhart, and Larry (Lori) Nellist of Dowelltown, Tenn.; her grandchildren, John David Nellist, Bradley Nellist (Katie Shoufler), Michael (Ashley) Nellist, and Fiona Nellist; and her great-grandchildren, Quentin and Ian Nellist, Anthony and Charlotte Nellist, and Tristan Nellist.
Beth was known for her love of Jane Austen novels, her love of cooking and gardening, and her service on the vestry of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Indianapolis and of St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Elkhart.
The Requiem mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Elkhart, with Pastor Terri Peterson and Deacon Melissa Renner presiding, at 11:00AM, on Saturday, August 24, 2024, with visitation one hour prior to the mass, followed by a short graveside service at Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart, where Beth will be laid to rest alongside Ed.
Memorial donations can be made to St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Elkhart or to New Frontiers in Dowelltown, TN.
Elkhart Cremation Services has been entrusted with her arrangements.
