Breton Green passed away on October 27, 2023, at the age of 50, surrounded by his family and closest friends. Born on March 7, 1973, Breton lived a life marked by resilience, gratitude, and a deep appreciation for the relationships he cultivated. He leaves behind his mother, Becky (Kimes-Green) Schieber; sister, Camie Green; niece, Giuliana Green; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Green, his step-father, Fred Schieber Jr, as well as his grandparents, Eloise (Hubbard) Kimes, and Howard and Verdie (Bizoe) Green.
During his high school years, Breton worked at the Elkhart YMCA. A computer whiz, he later built a successful career in IT, working for companies like IBM and Networkland. Beyond his IT career, Breton found immense joy in helping his best friend Quentin with his fireworks company. They shared countless memorable experiences putting on fireworks shows— starting in high school with bottle rockets in the Conklin’s backyard to professional displays across the Midwest. Quentin and the team at ACE Pyro were like family to Breton, and he cherished the time they spent together.
Diagnosed with kidney disease at a young age, Breton faced numerous health struggles throughout his life, including seven years of dialysis. Despite these hardships, he remained a beacon of happiness, never letting his circumstances dampen his spirit. Breton lived frugally, but his heart was rich with gratitude. Though he faced his share of challenges, Breton never let them define him. Breton’s faith in God was a cornerstone of his journey. He was deeply committed to spending time in self-reflection, seeking to align his life with his beliefs. This spiritual pursuit brought Breton peace and comfort, even in the face of his many challenges.
Breton's friendships were remarkable in their depth and quality. Many of his closest friends were those from his childhood and high school days. These bonds stood the test of time, with Breton playing significant roles in their lives, from weddings to holiday celebrations. His friendships extended into the virtual world as well, where he forged lasting connections through his love of video games. In the game Eve Online, Breton was known as an industrialist—he preferred to build things rather than blow them up. After his passing, his friends held an honorary flight within the game and left a memorial on Molea—a testament to the impact he had on their lives.
Breton was a great listener, a trusted sounding board, and a devoted family member. He was the best uncle to his niece, and his love for his family was evident in everything he did. His home was a treasure trove of memories, filled with items that connected him to those he loved—whether they were gifts, mementos, or things he had kept from their shared past. A passionate collector, Breton had an eye for unique items, amassing an impressive collection of glassware, cast iron cookware, candy dispensers, coins, and over 50 pieces of folk art created by his parents. He was also an extreme gardener, meticulously documenting details of his vegetable garden in notebooks.
Breton's sense of humor was as sharp as it was wicked, and despite everything he endured, he was always smiling and laughing. He relished a good debate, especially about politics, and his intelligence made him a formidable conversationalist on any topic.
Breton leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience. His presence will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
