With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Brian "Ray" Johnson on June 8, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on May 25, 1943, in St. Joseph County, Indiana.

Ray left this world surrounded by the love and comfort of his cherished daughters in Elkhart County, Indiana. Ray was the beloved son of Orley and Dorothy Johnson, and is now reunited in eternal peace with them and his brothers, Dennis, Duwane, Franklin, Gailen, Ronald, and Terry. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by his daughters, Roberta Sue Stone (Scott Stone) and Dawn Marie Thompson (Erik Thompson), who were his pride and joy. He also leaves behind his adored grandchildren, Danielle Nicole Young, Justin Zackary Maciel, Alec Mitchel Newman, Brandon O'Neal Turner, Austin Lee Turner, and Samantha Rose Cassidy, as well as ten precious great-grandchildren who will carry forth his gentle spirit.

Ray is also survived by his loving siblings, sisters Candy Sickels, Suzette Heckman, and Tonita Carmean, and brothers Roger Johnson and Joel Jessicke, who will forever cherish the moments and memories they shared.

A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Ray obtained his GED during his service, marking the beginning of a life characterized by dedication and hard work. He spent the majority of his career as an automotive paint and body man, a trade that spoke to his meticulous nature and steady hand. In addition to his work in the tool and die industry, Ray was also a beloved bartender at the VFW Post #88, where he shared countless stories and laughter, and worked alongside his brother, Roger, at JR Electro in Santee, California.

As a member of the VFW, Ray contributed to a community that valued camaraderie and service, principles that were deeply ingrained in him. His passion for life extended beyond his professional endeavors; he had a particular fondness for casinos, where his keen instinct often guided him to the perfect slot machine, a testament to his remarkable luck and intuition.

Known affectionately as Ray to his family and friends, he was a man of few words but abundant warmth, known for his happy, calm, and patient demeanor. He possessed a kindness that endeared him to everyone he met, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.

To honor Ray's life, a service will be held on June 28, 2026, at 2:00 PM at VFW Post #88, located at 1519 W. Bristol Street, Elkhart, Indiana. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Ray are invited to gather in celebration of his remarkable journey and to share in the stories that defined his life. As we bid farewell to Ray, we hold onto the memories of a man who lived a life full of love, laughter, and resilience. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew him.
