Cheryl Burris Obituary

Elkhart, IN- Cheryl Lee Burris (Niver) of Elkhart, passed peacefully in her home on March 22nd, 2021. Cheryl was born on September 8th, 1948 in Mishawaka, Indiana, to the late Elmer Niver Jr. and Mary Alice Niver (Squires). Cheryl grew up in River Park, graduating from John Adams High School in 1967. Cheryl started her first job while still in high school at Pizza King in Roseland, where she worked for 13 years. On March 26, 1970 Cheryl married Gregory Lee Burris at Cedar Road Missionary Church. Cheryl is survived by her only child, Sandra Lee Chambers (Alvin), ex-husband Gregory Burris, sisters; Donna Sue Miller, Polly Pasquanale and Peggy Dunbar and granddaughters Naomi Chambers (Cody Purvis), Cheyenne Keenan (Sean) and great-granddaughter Mila Dull as well as another great grandchild on the way, many cousins, nieces and nephews and her beloved cat Roxie. Cheryl was preceded in death by her brother Jeffrey D. Niver (Jane). Cheryl went on to become a manager at Hardee’s restaurant in 1987 where she would work until the closing of the area franchises in 1994. Cheryl had a love of helping others, animals (particularly elephants and cats) and spending time with family and friends. Cheryl’s hands were always busy, one winter she crocheted 300 hats to be donated as well as 150 crocheted dog and cat toys for donation to local animal shelters. When Cheryl was not sewing or crocheting you could find her reading, Stephen King was her favorite author.

Those who knew and loved Cheryl will remember her quick wit, no nonsense approach and unwavering love of her family and friends. Cheryl was one of a kind and will truly be missed, every time the sun shines, she is smiling down us.

Smooth the few silver threads out of my hair; over my slumbers your loving watch keep; Rock me to sleep, mother-rock me to sleep.
