In her own words found written down: “I feel blessed to be at Calvary Evangelism Center. The Pre-School and school hold a very special place in my heart. Helping start the pre-school in 1972 then becoming the teaching director administrator sometimes cooking and ground maintenance. When we started the Big Top Preschool there were many new experiences for me. We were picketed once and later Pastor Abbey and I had to go to court. Never a dull moment. Then the most wonderful thing happened. I got to start with the first class at Calvary Christian School in 1974. Teaching kindergarten first. I didn’t think it could get any better. So I moved to NC to be with my only grandchildren at the time and enjoy them as they grew up. I was gone 5 years. While I was gone the Lord gave me the privilege of earning my degree in Early Childhood paid for by the state of NC including all supplies, gas money plus extra money for going to my classes. When God does something, He does it well. I became homesick for Calvary and my friends. So I called Calvary to see if there was anything I could do. I was told there was a second-grade teaching position open in two weeks. I said I would take it. I walked out of my apartment in the upstairs part of my son-in-law’s church in NC with 3 suitcases and here I am. Second graders are such a wonderful age to teach. They believe what you tell them, they are eager to learn, and their hearts are tender toward God.” Crystal taught at the school she founded for almost 40 years by teaching preschool, elementary, and high school classes. She adored decorating her classrooms with bright colors and collecting birds nests, live snakes, spiders, and lizards to bring education to life for her students. She loved to color with markers & crayons, her classrooms popped with color and fun. She was an extremely creative person.
Crystal was passionate about serving Jesus and following the Pentecostal doctrine. Acts 2:38 was very important to her. She was a true Christian. She loved Jesus with all her heart and her whole life was dedicated to serving him through her ministry of teaching and loving hundreds of children over the years. The most amazing memory for her family is that in her later years when she forgot everything else, she would sit and pray talking to her best friend, Jesus, and speaking in tongues as described in the book of Acts in the Bible. She was a worshipper, prayer warrior, intercessor, kind, lover, giver, sassy, fun, and loved to laugh and have a good time. She enjoyed riding dirt bikes with her sons even into her later years. There was nothing she wouldn’t try. She enjoyed the outdoors playing ball, hiking, nature trails, etc. She loved to talk for hours. She used the words whodink, whatchamacallit, thingamagjig, doohickey, and thingamabob often. She absolutely loved food & family. Her family is so thankful for the beautiful example and Godly heritage she set forth for us!
Memorial Service honoring her life on Wed. June 8 at 7:00pm at First Pentecostal Church 27341 US 12 W Edwardsburg, MI 49112 officiated by her grandson-in-law Rev. Peter Brown.
