Daniel P. Avery died on September 15, 2024, at BellTower Health and Rehabilitation Center in Granger, IN, due to complications from a recent stroke. He was born on September 10, 1953, in Mishawaka, IN, to Wilfred J Avery and Lois M Sheler (nee Sones).
Dan is survived by four siblings, Thomas Avery of Mishawaka; Mary Klatt (Greg) of Hayesville, NC; Kathy Melling (Steve) of Hayesville, NC; Gary Avery of Vandalia, MI; and sister-in-law, Laura Avery of Mishawaka. He is survived by seven nieces and nephews, as well as 18 great-nieces/nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, William Avery; and a nephew.
Dan graduated from Penn High School in 1971, where he excelled in wrestling and played football. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was a specialist maintaining the AGM thermo-nuclear missile on the B-52. After his military service, he attended Indiana University South Bend for two years, and eventually entered the construction industry as an HVAC technician for more than 30 years.
There will be no formal services at this time. Elkhart Cremation Services has been entrusted with his care.
