David Lee Detwiler

Bristol, Indiana - David Lee Detwiler, 68, of Bristol passed away July 17th, 2025 at his farm surrounded by his family and friends. He was born September 23, 1956 to Carlisle “Porky” Detwiler and Lillian (Sahlhoff) Detwiler of New Paris, Indiana. On September 11th, 1976, David married Debra Lee Watchorn of Elkhart, Indiana. David was preceded in death by his Father Carlisle “Porky” Detwiler, his mother Lillian Detwiler, and his brother Edward “Ed” Detwiler of Elkhart.  David is survived by his loving wife Debra of Bristol, sister Bonnie Nicolai of Milford, sister Mary Butcher of Elkhart, brother Ken Detwiler of Cass Lake, MN, sister Pat Carpenter of Goshen, sister Cindy Bontrager of Elkhart, son Destin Detwiler and his wife Jennifer Detwiler of Howe, son Daniel Detwiler of New Albany, IN, son Darin Detwiler and his wife Edelyn Detwiler of Bristol, his daughter Dianna Detwiler of Goshen, grandchildren: Seth, Maddie, Mariah, Tim, Bethany, Stephen, Tatum, Sydney, Santiago, Kamen, Elijah, Tylar, and Tristan, great grandchildren: Liam, Elliana, Ava, Henry, and Cooper. And all his nieces and nephews that he cherished like his own children. 

Dave loved his wife and his family. He was a farmer through and through. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family at his farm where he lived with his wife Deb for 46 years. He loved cutting wood, fishing, raising animals, gardening, and watching sports at the farm with anyone that wanted to come up and do it with him. Dave had a special place in his heart for Ojibway Resort in Cass Lake, Minnesota. After his brother Ken purchased it in 1987, he took his family there on vacation every year since. Dave would invite ANYONE who was willing to go with him to experience the wonder of fishing in the Northwoods. There have been many people who have become ‘family’ through sharing in the camaraderie of catching and cleaning fish in Minnesota. 

Dave will be sorely missed by his family and friends. The family takes comfort in knowing that his suffering has ended and that he is in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. David’s funeral service will be Sunday, July 27th at Eden Worship Center 4095 S 900 W Topeka, Indiana at 2:00 pm. There will be a celebration of life at his farm in Bristol, IN on Saturday, August 30th at 5:00. Monetary donations will go towards memorial benches in honor of Dave.
