Born: December 7, 1953

Deborah Sue McQueen of Elkhart, Indiana, died peacefully Friday, June 19, 2020 at the Hospice House. Proceeded in death by her parents Roy and Marjory Robinson. Deb leaves behind her loving husband of almost 40 years and their five remarkable children all who reside in Indiana: son, Matt McQueen, South Bend; daughter Robin (Cary) Peters, Middlebury; daughter Tiffany McQueen, Elkhart; and Ashley (Faruq) Ghaffar, Goshen and Michael (Libby) McQueen, Goshen. She leaves a beautiful legacy behind with 16 grandchildren: Lachlan, Aidan, Alexis (Mason), Elisa, Christopher, Dasianae, Marlee, Andre, Ke’Juan, Fatima, Naima, Faruq, Khalil, Anissa, Mekhi, and Roman.

A 1972 Penn High School graduate. Deb was a member of both Prairie Street Mennonite Church (Elkhart) and Grace Brethren Church (Osceola) during her lifetime. Deb was involved in many community organizations and gave selflessly to each cause and campaign. Deb aided in the development of the PTA in Elkhart Community Schools at the local, state and national level. Deb served as a Regional Vice President on the PTA. Also spearheaded Red Ribbon/Drug Free schools committee. Deb helped with the starting of Church Community Services, Soup of Success childcare. She was employed through Elkhart Area Career Center supervising the toddler room of the Teenage Parent Program. Although employed in several areas of ECS she had a special connection to the students at Roosevelt and Hawthorne Elementary Schools for many years; also including Jacob’s Ladder Daycare. Deb was kindhearted to all being a voice for youth and support for educators.

Deb’s true love and interest was family; however, she always found time to be a statistician for local or family sports and was an avid traveler. In fact, Deb and her husband Raymond owned a travel agency, Get-A-Way Travel Services. Through whoich, she loved taking advantage of her traveling perks.

Deborah served as an unofficial parent to a number of children during their times of special needs. She had strong family values and loved her family dearly. Deborah cherished her special relationship with her children and grandkids. She enjoyed spending quality time, encouraging them and always expressing how proud she is of them up until the time of her illness.

Deb will be truly missed by all who knew her. The family will be cremating the remains and will have a future memorial to remember her love.
