Eddie Leroy Adkins

Eddie Leroy Adkins, 72, of Niles, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2025. Born on February 29, 1952, in Meadow Bridge, West Virginia, Eddie was the beloved son of Herman and Grace Adkins. In 1964, his family re-located to Walkerton, Indiana, where he met Paula, the love of his life. Their journey together began in 1971 and blossomed into a lifelong bond.

Eddie was a proud Union Ironworker with Local 292, where he not only built structures but also enduring friendships that lasted well beyond his retirement. Known for his charismatic personality and unwavering optimism, Eddie, affectionately called “Pops” or “Poppy,” was a source of encouragement and love to all who knew him. He had a knack for bringing smiles to faces and was always ready to lend a helping hand. In his leisure time, Eddie was renowned as a legendary pool and dart player.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Bill, Dennis, Don, and Sam Adkins. He is survived by his devoted wife, Paula; his sister, Sandra Hoover of Walkerton, Indiana; and his brother, Frank (Carol) Adkins of Walkerton, Indiana. Eddie’s legacy lives on through his four children: Johnny (Jessica) Groves of Brooksville, Florida; Mark (Lori) Groves of South Bend, Indiana; Jamie Adkins of Mishawaka, Indiana; and Amy (Danny) Sjoerdsma of Granger, Indiana. He was blessed with nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life.

Eddie’s warmth and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort and inspiration to those he touched.
