Edward L Olinger

GRANGER-Edward “Ed” Lamar Olinger, 93, of Elkhart, passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 19, 2025.

  Born on March 10, 1932, in Elkhart, Indiana, Ed was the son of the late Hershel and Thelma Olinger. He married the love of his life, Eleanor Kidder, and they shared a devoted marriage spanning 74 years.

  Ed was preceded in death by his son, David Olinger (1987); his grandson, Mitchell Olinger (1991); his granddaughter, Lindsay Whitehead (2013), and his brother, Floyd Olinger.

  Surviving is his wife, Eleanor; children: Dan (Cinda) Olinger of Middlebury, IN; Darrick (Sherry) Olinger of Asheboro, NC Michael (Tabitha) Olinger of Granger, IN; Patti Olinger of Goshen, IN. and sister, Mary Lou Weldy. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

  For the past several years, Ed lived with his son Michael and daughter-in-law Tabitha Olinger in Granger. During this time, his relationship with Michael blossomed into something truly beautiful, strengthened by the care and love they shared.

  Ed had a deep love for fishing, and some of his most cherished memories were made on the water, surrounded by those he loved. He also enjoyed early mornings spent watching his favorite fishing shows. Ed had a sweet tooth for milkshakes and ice cream, and he found quiet joy in watching birds out the window. Most of all, he treasured visits from friends and family, which never failed to brighten his days.

  He dedicated many years of his career to Gemeinhardt, where he made lasting contributions and friendships before eventually retiring. Ed will be dearly missed and forever remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, and unwavering faith.

  Ed’s final resting place will be at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart, Indiana.

  Per his wishes cremation will take place and a celebration of life service will be held Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. at Elkhart City Church 431 S. Third St., Elkhart, IN 46516.  The calling will begin at 10:30 a.m.
