Emma Rose Ray transitioned peacefully in her home at the age of 82, on Oct 5, 2024. To many, she was a social butterfly, who really never met a stranger. Her laugh was beyond infectious, leaving a legacy of family with those she met. She was born to the union of the late Alonzo and Mayola Silas on July 27, 1942, in Greenwood, Mississippi.
Emma attended and graduated from elementary school and high school in Chicago, Illinois. She gave birth to her daughter, Risé, from a previous relationship. In March of 1966, Emma wed Charles E. Ray, who preceded her in death. The couple was married for 35 years. Most of her life’s work was spent caring for others as a Certified Nursing Assistant, and she retired after working 12 years with Elkhart General Hospital. Following her retirement, Emma returned to Illinois.
Emma returned to South Bend after a number of years, to be closer to her family. She leaves behind her daughter, Risé Silas; a granddaughter, Andrea Baldwin; grandson, Andrew (Stephanie) Baldwin; and great-grandson, Silas Baldwin, as well as a host of family and friends.
At the request of Emma, there will be no funeral services. Elkhart Cremation Services has been entrusted with her care.
The family would like to thank the doctors, medical providers, and the Center for Hospice Care, for all of the personalized, compassionate care given to our loved one during her time of need.
