It is with great heartache that we announce the passing of our beautiful mother, grandmother, aunt at the home of her daughter in law in South Bend, IN.
Jean was born to the union of James and Emma Cauley in South Bend, IN, who have preceded her. Jean was also predeceased by her siblings, Ruth Wagner, Betty Moore Brown and Jerry Cauley.
Jean married the love of her life, Dave Conrad in Florida on April 11, 1985, whom she lost sadly on September 20, 1989.
She also suffered the great loss of her children; twins James D. Dowdy and Ruth L. Dowdy, Roy E. Dowdy, Sr. and Jamie Dowdy, her niece Susan Moore and great nephew Greg Smith.
Her treasured grandchildren survive; Roy E. (Tawny) Dowdy, Jr. and Austin M. Dowdy. Her nephews and nieces surviving are Gale (Diana) Smith, Sarah (Lyra McCarty) Moore, Kris Smith and Kyle Smith and her daughter in law Margie (Roger) Schmeltz.
She moved to Florida in early 1995 to enjoy the warmth and sunshine. She was loved by many for her kindness and energy. Jean enjoyed many travels to Hawaii, cruises and train trips with her sister Betty, and friends Phyllis and Judy.
Jean always made a trip to South Bend to visit her family and grandchildren. Her first visits were always to Hacienda to enjoy her Orange Cream Margarita! Of course, she returned many times before heading back to Florida.
We want to thank her many dear neighbors and friends, especially Judy, Phyllis, Dave, Sondra and Tom, Dinah, Belle, Myrna, Beth, Linda and many others that she treasured for many years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her church, Guiding Light Community Church, 1360 Touchstone Road, North Fort Myers, Fl 33903, or the American Institute for Cancer Research, PO Box 97167, Washington, DC 20090-7167.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Prairie Street Cemetery,
401 W. Hively, Elkhart, IN 46517.
