Obituary

Emmett Vere Arnold Jr. 78 of Nappanee Indiana, went to his long awaited home in Heaven on March 17 2023.

Emmett was born March 11, 1945, to Emmett V. Arnold Sr. and Opal (Welch) Arnold in Sidney Nebraska. Emmett is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Trixie, and Sharon, brother Franklin, wife Loretta, grandson Nicholas, and great grandson A.J Armstrong IV.

Emmett is survived by two sons. Travis Delano and wife Shawntel of Gentry AR, and Eric Arnold and wife Rebeckah of Siloam Springs AR. Three daughters Beth Alexander of Nappanee IN, Karena Gregory of Cheyenne WY, and Michelle Raney and husband Brenton of Siloam Springs AR.  Emmett also leaves his legacy behind with 12 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. 

Emmett graduated from Boys Town High School of Boys Town NE. During his school years, he enjoyed football, track, wrestling, swimming, and his favorite was diving. He later attended classes at Western Nebraska Community College in Sidney, NE.

Emmett enlisted into the United States Navy in 1963. During his military career, he served 4 tours in Vietnam.  He served on 5 different ships, the USS Uhlmann, USS Mercer, USS Pickaway, USS Dubuque, and the USS Kittyhawk. He was honorably discharged in 1971.

Emmett worked in a variety of different employments throughout his life, and often times worked two jobs at once. His favorite position was with the City of Sidney Sanitation Department, where he wrote and implemented a computer program among other tasks.

Emmett dedicated 15+ years to the practice and study of Tae Kwon Do. He opened a non- profit school and instructed many students, often time free of charge. His students attended numerous competitions, including the AAU Junior Olympics.  He took great pride in teaching women’s self-defense and was known for breaking cinder blocks that were on fire. 

Emmett was a very dedicated father and enjoyed volunteering at the children’s school amongst various other events.

Emmett had numerous hobbies including bird watching, drawing, woodworking, crochet, cross- stitching, archery, fishing, guitar, auto harp, cooking, baking, and bowling.  He had a love for western books, country gospel music, watching the Hallmark Channel, and talking about the weather. Of all his passions, he most loved animals.

Emmett lived a life full of love, dedication, and service for which we will always be grateful and honored. 

There will be a Military Honor Service Saturday April 8th, 2023 at 11: AM at the American Legion Post 154 , 201 W Lincoln Street ,  Nappanee, In..  Arrival at 11 am Full Honor Ceremony will begin promptly at 11:15 am.  Lunch will be served after the service.  Please join his family on this day they send their hero home.
