Fred Schieber, Jr., 74, passed away peacefully at his home in Union, Ml, surrounded by family on March 14, 2024, after a courageous four-year battle with cancer.
Fred married Becky (Kimes-Green) on June 16, 1989, and she survives. He is also survived by his children: sons from a previous marriage, M. Todd (Sofia) Schieber and Mark (Misty) Schieber, as well as his step-daughter, Camie Green. Fred is fondly remembered by his sisters, Nancy Butler and Karen (Ron) Duvall, along with his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and many cousins. Fred was preceded in death by his step-son, Breton Green, as well as his parents, Fred Sr. and Betty Schieber.
Fred lived his whole life in Zimmyville (Union, Ml), except for two years when he lived in Ironwood, Michigan. He attended and graduated from White Pigeon High School in 1967. He cherished his class reunions, where he enjoyed reconnecting with old friends and reminiscing about shared memories.
Fred founded F & S Decoys and carved his first swan in 1983. Becky joined him, painting his hand-carved creations in 1986. They worked together until his death, creating art inspired by the natural world around them. He enjoyed his work immensely, drawing on his love of nature and animals. During those years, he sold often at the Shipshewana Auction Barn, where he was well known. Fred's carvings are revered by family, friends and collectors locally and around the world. Fred loved selling at many shows over the years, most especially Wisconsin and the Adirondacks in New York. He found peace and joy in the many friendships he made near and far throughout his life.
Fred was a quiet, strong presence, who was deeply connected to the outdoors. He found happiness in the simplicity of everyday life, especially working in his shop and spending time with his wife and family. He spent many a morning drinking coffee and having a donut at the Union Market while enjoying the company of his close friends. Fred will be remembered for his strength, resilience and unwavering spirit. He touched the lives and hearts of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life Open House will be held at the Bristol Community Church (Bristol, IN) on May 18, 2024 from 2:00-5:00pm.
