Frederick Roger Barber

Frederick Roger Barber, born on September 24, 1940, passed away at Esther’s House, Center for Hospice Care, in Elkhart, Indiana, on June 9, 2024 at 1:15 a.m., following a brief illness. He resided in Granger, Indiana, was a 1958 graduate of Mishawaka High School and served in the United States Army Reserve for six years.

Fred worked for 20 years for Dodge Manufacturing as a laborer, but his favorite job was when he was self-employed as a car dealer. He was very fond of collectible cars, particularly the Chevy Corvette, and he owned many over his lifetime. He also enjoyed the company of his dog, Mazie, repairing engines, growing rose bushes and haggling for deals either at garage sales, his car lot or even the local KFC.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll and Dorothy Barber, and a sister, Nancy Bice. He is survived by his two daughters, Angela Brown of Elkhart, IN, and Melissa (Jeff) Rodino of Bristol, IN; four grandchildren, Cory (Casey), Kayla, Garrett and Gabe; three great-grandchildren; and several great friends.

Per his wishes, no services are planned, and he is to be cremated. 

Contributions in memory of Fred may be given to Esther’s House (Center for Hospice Care) or Homeward Bound Animal Welfare Group.
