Gene Wallace “Genie” Young

May 25, 1937 – July 2, 2026

Gene Wallace “Genie” Young, 89, passed away surrounded by family, July 2, 2026. Born in

 Wheatcroft, Kentucky, Gene was the 10th of 12 children born to Georgie and Ervin Young.

A natural athlete, Gene excelled at every sport he touched. His talent as a pitcher even earned him

an offer to play semi-pro baseball for the Cubs organization. In 1957, Gene began a dedicated 44-year

career at Kreamo Bakery, retiring in 1999. He remained passionate,

 lifelong sports and horse racing fan, rarely missing a chance to cheer on his favorite teams.

Above all, Gene will be remembered for his exceptional humor and legendary storytelling.

 He possessed a rare gift for bringing a smile or a laugh to anyone he met, leaving a lasting

 mark on every heart he touched. Family and Legacy

Gene is survived by: His devoted partner of 19 years, Kathryn Wentland

His children: Rony (Dawn) Young, Rhonda Thompson, Roxi Young, Randy "Slick" Young,

Mona (Rick) Householder, and Mishelle (Matthew) Miller-Pearce

A proud legacy of 25 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

 As well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife,

 Donna Young (2006), his parents, and his 11 siblings.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Dinner will be held in his honor on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at 2pm and will be at The American Legion 357 5414 W Sample St. South Bend, IN  46619.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported them during this time.
