It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gerry D. Current, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Gerry was born on October 24, 1961, in Elkhart, Indiana, and he passed away in the same town he called home, after a long illness. His life journey spanned from October 24, 1961 to October 25, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories.
Born to Raymond L. Current and Beverly J. (Rhinesmith) Current, Gerry was raised in a loving home that cultivated his caring, loving, and trusting nature. He deeply valued family and was often described as the nice guy next door, always ready to lend a helping hand when needed.
Gerry was an enthusiast and a true collector at heart. His diverse collection included Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars, Marvel and DC memorabilia and figurines, Cult Classic Collectibles, and local nostalgic items such as Miles Laboratories' Speedy Alka-Seltzer. He had a unique talent for seeing value in items that others might overlook, making his collections a treasure trove of memories and stories.
Gerry's love for carpentry began in a woodworking class during his school years, where he discovered a passion that stayed with him for life. He fashioned several pieces of beautiful furniture and restored many more, each piece a testament to his skill and dedication. His handiwork can be found in the homes of family and friends, a lasting tribute to his artistry and craftsmanship.
Gerry's family meant everything to him. He is survived by two daughters, Breanna (Jason Fisher) Graham and Ashley (Randy) Hartman, who will forever cherish the memories of their father’s unwavering support and boundless love. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Kailyn Hartman, Jay Graham, Oliver Graham, and Alyx Graham, as well as his great-grandchild, Kehlani Grant, who brought immense joy to his life.
Gerry also leaves behind his brothers, Terry (Brenda) Current, Donald (Lisa) Current, and TJ (David Gray) Current, who will always remember him as a caring and loving sibling. Though he and his ex-wife, Tina M. Current, went separate ways, they shared many years and created a beautiful family together.
Preceded in death by his parents, Raymond L. Current and Beverly J. (Rhinesmith) Current, Gerry’s passing marks the end of an era for the Current family. Yet, the values and memories he imparted continue to inspire his loved ones.
In honor of Gerry’s life and his battle with illness, those wishing to make a donation in his memory are encouraged to contribute to the American Cancer Society. Donations can be made online: https://donate.cancer.org/
