GRANGER-Herta M. Smith, 92, passed away March 1, 2026, at Brookdale of Granger. She was born July 16, 1933, in Gundelsheim, Germany.
On September 21, 1962 she married Donald Smith; he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Georg & Hermine (Nothelfer) Lang, 3 siblings, Karl Lang, Fritz Lang and Lilly Bertsch.
Surviving is her daughter, Olga (Rick) Glossett, 4 grandchildren, Nicole Morrison, Olivia (Ben) Langdon, Jennifer (Tim) Payne, Jason (Amanda) Morrison, 7 great-grandchildren, Alex, Noah, Grace, Anja, Kyla, Emma, Derek, and 1 great-great-granddaughter, Azaria. Also surviving are 2 siblings Peter (Bärbel) Lang and Gisela Schilling.
Herta, while living in Germany, experienced much of W.W.II. That experience made her what she was; a strong, opinionated, and independent woman. She was a member of the V.F.W. Post 5803 and the American Legion Post # 261 both in Ohio. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, cooking, and most of all spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Per her wishes cremation will take place and there will be a graveside services at a later date in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be given to any local D.A.V.
Elkhart Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements.
