James Babcock Obituary

James Allen Babcock, 63, of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024, at Elkhart General Hospital.  He was born on June 23, 1960, in Niles, Michigan, to Glenn Eugene and Eilene Mae (Mackling) Babcock.

On September 19, 1998, in South Bend, Indiana, James married Kimberly Sue Skwarcan.  She survives along with two brothers, Bill (Sue) Babcock and Bob (Gale) Babcock, both of Florida. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents.

James graduated in 1977 from Edwardsburg High School and served in the United States Air Force.  He liked anything that went fast, enjoyed visiting the local casinos, being by the water, eating ice cream, and playing with his pups. He especially loved the Smokey Mountains. He was always happy and smiling, had a great sense of humor, and never gave up. He was known as the pie guy, because he enjoyed baking pies and making cheesecakes.

In 2018, Jim suffered from kidney failure and had to receive dialysis three times a week. Although sometimes hard, he never missed an oil change, as he put it, and it did not keep him from the things he truly enjoyed.

James was employed as a sales representative in the automotive industry for many years.

Cremation will take place and a celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date.  Elkhart Cremation Services is entrusted with his care. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Kidney Fund or to Davita Dialysis.

James was an avid Michigan football fan.
