James "Jim" Richard Swinehart

Jim Swinehart, 75, passed away on September 10, 2025, at Goshen General Hospital, surrounded by loved ones. He was born March 6, 1950 in Elkhart, Indiana to Richard H. & Betsey A. (Bloom) Swinehart. Jim married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Ellen Bunn, on August 30, 1969 in Elkhart, Indiana. They recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary together. 

Jim was always passionate about working on vehicles and tractors. He spent most of his life working as a diesel mechanic and participating in many tractor pulls. After retirement, Jim was able to turn his passion of working with tractors into a hobby. He took pride in helping others, so it’s no surprise his customers became his friends. Jim created a life of showing up for others and accepted people for who they were. Though he was a man of few words, his love for others was strong and was felt through his actions of service, laughter, and jokes. 

Jim is survived by his wife, Barb Swinehart; his children, Scott (Kaleigh) Swinehart of Mishawaka, Indiana, Andy (Laura) Swinehart of Elkhart, Indiana and Pete (Kelly) Swinehart of Elkhart, Indiana; his eight grandchildren, Preston, Riley, Dalton, Macie, Owen, Cooper, Jae, and Maddie; his brothers, Jerry (Beth), Bruce and Dan; his close nephew Sean Leonard, as well as many extended family members and friends, who will miss him dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Betsey Swinehart.

Honoring Jim’s wishes, there will be no service. His family will have a private Celebration of Life.
