Joel “Keith” Sissom, 73, of Elkhart, Indiana, peacefully went to Heaven on October 23, 2024 at the Center for Hospice Care, Elkhart, surrounded in love by his family.
Born on June 15, 1951 in Tennessee, Keith moved to Indiana with his family where they lived in Jimtown, where he graduated from high school.
Keith was a Sonar Technician Petty Officer 3rd Class of the United States Navy.
Keith leaves behind a family of three children, Michelle Sissom, Kristi (Todd) Hesselbart, Brad Sissom (Emily Irwin); six grandchildren, Mackenzi (Evan) Hartwig, Maddison Schoen, Ashley (Ryan) Wickizer, Mia Hesselbart, Braxton Sissom and Hadley Sissom; along with two great-grandchildren, Ivy Wickizer and Lettie Hartwig. His family meant the world to him, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren made his heart smile.
Keith also leaves behind his loving brother and sisters, Joyce Gordy, Nancy (Mel) Frost, Johnny Sissom (Linda Amezquila), and Debbie (Kenny) Lienhart.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Buford and Gladys (Overturf) Sissom; sisters, Peggy (Alvin) Fults, Charlotte (Leo) Haggard, Cathy (John) Albert and Beverly Riley; and brother, Leon Sissom.
Keith was a tool and die journeyman by trade, most of his life. Later in life, he and his brother, John, became over-the-road truck drivers, where they enjoyed seeing different parts of the U.S.
A celebration of life service for Keith will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Riverview General Baptist Church, 1201 E. Indiana Avenue, Elkhart, IN. Pastor Rick Pirtle will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00-2:00pm on Tuesday at the church prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to have donations made in Keith’s name to the Center for Hospice Care.
Elkhart Cremation Services has been entrusted with his care.
