John Ervin Obituary

John D. Ervin, devoted husband of 27 years to Ann Raneri-Ervin, passed away peacefully, cared for until the end by the loving hearts and gentle hands of his wife and stepchildren. A proud veteran, John served his country with distinction in both the Marines and the Army. After receiving a hardship discharge to care for his terminally ill mother, he reenlisted in the Army and bravely served in Vietnam.

Following his military service, John built a long and fulfilling career with Duquesne Light and Reliant Energy. A devoted family man, John was a loving stepfather to April Ambrose (Tom) of Ligonier, PA; Charles Smith (Julie) of Elkhart, IN; and Sherrie Centrella (Daniel) of West Chester, PA. He was a proud grandfather to Brett Smith (Hannah, and great-grandson Charlie) of Elkhart, IN, and Lexie Ambrose (Gabe) of Ligonier, PA. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy.

John found great joy in life’s simple pleasures—he loved fishing trips to New York with his son-in-law, Tom, and he treasured time spent hunting and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers. Known for his sense of humor, kind spirit, and unwavering love for animals, John ensured that every family pet lived its best life. We find comfort in knowing he will be reunited with his precious dogs, who are waiting for him to cross the Rainbow Bridge together.

After living in the Greensburg, PA, area for most of their lives, John and Ann recently moved to Indiana to be closer to family. Although he left behind a small but special group of friends and family in Pennsylvania, they will forever cherish the memories shared with him.

Per John’s wishes, his family will honor his life privately, with no public services. In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring his memory by spending time in nature, as John so loved to do.

Rest in peace, John. Your memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved you, and you will be dearly missed.
