John (Mike) M Shafer

ELKHART-John (Mike) M. Shafer, 62, passed away September 22, 2025, at the Center for Hospice Care the Esther House in Elkhart.  He was born July 6, 1963, in Marion, IN to Verlin “Dwight” & Christobal “Kay” (Apple) Shafer.

  On April 5, 1986, he married Celinda Lowe; she survives along with his mother, Kay Shafer, 3 children, James Davis, Erick Shafer, Cassandra (Brad) Pratt, 8 grandchildren, Trenity, Madasin, Beau, Mikayla, Colton, Kahlan, Kyler, and Emery.  Also surviving are 3 siblings Bradley (Paulette) Howard, Lisa (Steve) Dooley, Steve (Melinda) Shafer, sister-in-law, Chandra (Matt) Shugart, brother-in-law, Jack (Anita) Lowe, a special cousin, Forrest (Claudia) Apple, 6 nephews and many other family members.

  He was preceded in death by his father, Dwight Shafer, a son, Jonathan Shafer and a granddaughter, Karra Shafer.

  John graduated from Marion High School in Marion, Indiana in 1981.  He enjoyed morel mushroom hunting, rock collecting, riding his Harley, and traveling to Negril, Jamacia with his wife.

  Per his wishes cremation will take place and there will be a celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date.

  Memorial contributions may be given to the Elkhart County Humane Society or the Center for Hospice Care.
