Johnnie J. Crippen (née Malinics), 80, passed away peacefully at her home, on Thursday, February 13, 2025. Born on October 4, 1944, she was the daughter of Nick and Juanita Malinics.
A graduate of Baylor University in Texas, Johnnie dedicated her professional life to caring for others as both a social worker and nursing home administrator. She was a pioneering single mother who demonstrated remarkable strength and independence in raising her son during an era when such paths were less common, along with several other of her son’s friends, whom she was a surrogate mother to.
Known for her sharp mind, Johnnie found particular joy in challenging herself with difficult crossword puzzles and appreciated the simple pleasure of quiet solitude. Her independent spirit and determination left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Robert N. Parsons; four grandchildren, Anthony Parsons, Corielle Putnam, Douglas Parsons, and Alycia Ball-Parsons; two great-grandchildren, Kaelan and Mason Putnam; and her sister, Mary Loudermilk (née Malinics).
No services will be held at this time. Elkhart Cremation Services has been entrusted with her care.
