On Monday, July 22, 2024, beloved wife, mother, sister, and gammy passed away at the age of 81 at Greencroft Healthcare in Goshen, Indiana.
Kay was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska in 1942 to Luella and Harvey Clingenpeel, who both preceded her in death.
Kay met her husband Alvin “Al” Fowler, Jr., in California. While he was in the Navy in 1963, they got married in Carmel, California. They celebrated 61 years of marriage this year. They have two daughters, Dana (David) May of Mishawaka, IN, and Lani (Gregory) Kirk of Elkhart, IN. Dana preceded her in death on September 1, 2020.
Kay comes from a large family with three sisters and one brother: Frances Barrow, Norma Appel, Luella Jo Butler, and Ronald Clingenpeel. Her three sisters preceded her in death. She has numerous nieces and nephews whom she adored.
After Al's discharge from the Navy, they moved several times across the country from southern California, to Oklahoma, to several places in Ohio, to Indiana, and to Nebraska. They spent their empty-nester years in Nebraska and then moved back to Indiana to be with family.
Kay could make a friend wherever she went. Strangers became fast friends. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, watching figure skating, and especially, watching the Olympics—now she has front row seats. Kay was the most amazing cook… yet couldn't keep a plant alive. She always looked forward to hearing stories and escapades of her grandchildren, Gregory Jr and Jamie, and her great-grandchildren, Paislee and Westley.
No services will be held. Elkhart Cremation Services has been entrusted with her care.
