Larry Vanderbosch Obituary

My name is Larry Herman Vanderbosch. I was born in South Bend, Indiana, on January 31, 1939, to the late Herbert M. and Bernadette T. Vanderbosch. I was the second child of four siblings: Kenneth, Jeanne (Dallas) Neely, and Keith (Arlene). I lived in River Park, attended St. Monica School and graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1957.

In 1960, I joined the Indiana National Guard and was active until 1966. From 1963 through 1983, I worked for Wheelabrator-Frye Inc.

On September 2, 1961, I married Shirley (Shaffner). She was the only woman for fifty-six years. Together with God, we raised two daughters, Kristen (Terry) Ballard and Sheryl (Danny) Hauger, who went on to raise their own beautiful children, our beloved grandchildren, Veronica (Patrick Herward) Ballard, Hilary (Andy Baych) Ballard, Corban Hauger, Haley (Brandon) Church; and great-grandchildren, Clementine Cox, Hayden, Zoey, and Willow Baych, and Jonathon Herward.

I lived a remarkable life, moving several times. The most memorable being Sleepy Hollow Road in Mt. Lebanon, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Eventually moving back home again to South Bend, Indiana, in 1991.

I was Mr. V to those who knew me best, and with the gifts God gave me (Jack-of-all trades, master-of-many), I was always willing to provide help and dependable assistance to family, friends and neighbors. They say I was a gentle giant, but it was just me wanting to help.

My final months were spent with my family and dog companion, Karl, by my side, assisted by Caring Cove Hospice. My last breath was taken on April 27, 2024, to join my beloved Shirley and all of those who went before me, looking spicy in my polyester.

The celebration of my life will take place at Living Stones Church in June 2024, the date yet to be determined.
