Michael Van Fisher

Michael Van Fisher, 79, of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at the Center for Hospice Care-Esther’s House in Elkhart. He was born on June 23, 1945, in Elkhart, Indiana to Raymond H. & Gurley R. (Vantilburg) Fisher.

On February 14, 1978, in Elkhart, Indiana, he married Peggy L. Johnson. She survives along with two sons, Rhett (Angela) Fisher and Gavin (Tonya) Fisher, both of Elkhart, and five grandchildren. Michael was preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters, Patricia Fisher and Racheal Garrett.

Michael graduated in 1963 from Elkhart High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1965 -1967 and was honorably discharged. He was a proud member of the F.O.P.  Michael was a policeman with the Elkhart Police Department for 20 years, and he retired from the United States Postal Service in in 2013.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation will take place, and a celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to the Elkhart County Humane Society.
