Patricia Bickart Obituary

Patricia Ann Bickart, 90, passed away on October 30, 2021 at the Center for Hospice Care in Mishawaka, Indiana, following an illness. She was born on February 6, 1931 in Elkhart, Indiana, where she was a lifelong resident. She was the daughter of Edwin and Nellie (Vandervoort) Broadbent and had 6 siblings. She is survived by one brother, James Broadbent of Elkhart. She was a graduate of both Elkhart High School and Western Michigan University.

She married John Howard Bickart in 1952 and had two daughters, Brigette (Matthew) Gray of Granger, Indiana and Christina (Javier Delgado) Bickart of Madrid, Spain. She had four grandchildren: Ian, Mason and Audrey Gray and Javier Delgado-Bickart, who will all miss their vibrant and creative grandmother.

From an early age she had an appreciation of the arts in all of its forms. She was a consummate volunteer lending her time and many talents to a large number of local organizations including: Midwest Museum of American Art (she was one of the museum’s first docents), Four Arts Club, Questers, Tri Kappa Sorority, Ruthmere Museum, Elkhart Concert Club, the Riverside Club, and Wellfield Botanic Gardens.

Patti loved museums, plays and musicals, gardens, painting, designing jewelry and clothing, decorating, antiques, anything English, traveling cooking and reading (she always had 3 or 4 books going at any given time). She had many friends, whom she enjoyed entertaining not only through her gourmet cooking but also with her funny stories, sense of humor and wit. Her group of friends continued to grow over the years, with her goal of making one new friend every year. She had insatiable curiosity and was always eager to learn more. She embraced technology, discovering ways to make or repair things or just to learn something new.

Patti’s family and friends will miss her greatly.

Per her wishes cremation will take place and there will be no services at this time.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Midwest Museum of American Art, 429 South Main Street Elkhart, IN 46516.
