Peggy Stump Obituary

Elkhart – Peggy Sue Stump, 61, of Elkhart died peacefully at home on Tuesday July 22, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born on June 28, 1964, in Mishawaka, IN to Julian P. and Velma J. (Farris) Adkins.

Peggy is survived by her son Roger (Nga) Hershberger Jr, of Osceola, IN, and her daughter Jennifer (James Stremme) Hershberger, of Elkhart, IN; and her (4) grandchildren (Lucas, Malia, Bella, Nala); her first husband Roger Hershberger Sr. and her siblings Theresa Brown of Springfield, TN, Pam Estes of Osceola, and David (Donna) Adkins of Osceola and a host of nieces and nephews. Peggy was preceded in death by her second husband Garry L. Stump, her parents Julian and Velma Adkins; her brothers, Julian “Dewayne” (Tina) Adkins and Ronald Dale Adkins; sister Sheila Gail (Kent) Leazenby and Debbie (Fern) Jones and nephews, Jason Poole Adkins and Dylan Bailey; brother-in-law Mike Estes and her beloved dog Lilly.

To know Peggy was to experience true friendship. She was a confidante and a comfort to all who crossed her path, always offering a listening ear and a helping hand. Her ability to understand any situation, coupled with her compassionate spirit, made her a true source of solace for those in need. Peggy's work ethic was unparalleled, and she approached every task with diligence and a cheerful heart. She had a simple, yet profound, philosophy on life, often encapsulated in her favorite phrase: "It is what it is." This short and sweet message was Peggy's way of acknowledging life's challenges with grace and resilience, reminding everyone to accept what they couldn't change and move forward with peace.

Peggy's greatest joy and most cherished accomplishment was her family and her 4 grandchildren. She was an extraordinary mother who poured her heart and soul into raising her two children, instilling in them values of kindness, perseverance, and unconditional love. Her home was a haven, always filled with laughter, support, and the comforting presence of a mother who made sure her family was always taken care of. Peggy found immense happiness in the simple things in life: precious moments spent with her beloved family, quiet evenings filled with shared stories, and the occasional spirited trip to the casino, where she enjoyed the thrill of the game.

Peggy Sue Stump will be profoundly missed by her loving children, extended family, and countless friends whose lives she touched with her remarkable spirit. Her memory will continue to inspire us to live with the same compassion, dedication, and joy she exemplified every day.

In keeping with her wishes there will be no services and cremation will take place.  Elkhart Cremation Services is entrusted with her care.
