Rachel J. Lockwood, 51, left us on September 22nd, 2025, at Elkhart General Hospital. Rachel was a beloved mother, wife, sister, daughter, and dear friend to those encompassing her. She loved Yorkies, sunflowers, Notre Dame football, and Motley Crue. A transplant recipient, she had been a fighter her entire life. Even though it was a tough fight, she never lost her ambition, strength, and passion for this world. Her favorite hobbies included cooking, painting, and spending time with her family & friends. A talented chef, she devoted her love and talent for culinary at Western Inn for twenty years before her retirement in 2012. Post retirement, she enjoyed homemaking, reading, painting, drawing, making wax melts, knitting, listening to music, watching football and crafting.
Rachel was born to Arthur P. Burroughs and Linda K. Burroughs (nee Cook) on May 10, 1974, in Michigan City, Indiana. She attended New Prairie High School and was raised in Rolling Prairie, Indiana. She cherished the small-town community of New Carlisle and the people that enriched it. She embraced the last five years of her life, in Elkhart, Indiana with love and joy surrounded by her husband, daughter, father-in-law, “Pops”, and dog Ava.
Rachel is preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Linda. A brother, Mark. Brother-in-law, Jason Wilson.
Surviving is her husband, Matthew Lockwood; daughter, Ashlee Burroughs (David M. Fleisher); Father-in-law, David Lockwood; brothers, Allan Burroughs (Charlene), Robert Burroughs(Maggie), and Kyle Burroughs (Kristin); Many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Elkhart Cremation Services has been entrusted with her care.
