Randy Sriver Obituary

Randy Sriver, 84, passed away on the morning of January 10th after a long period of illness. Born January 7th, 1942, and raised in Akron, he was the second son of Orville and Claudie (née Rhodes) Sriver. He graduated from Akron High School in 1960 and lived in Bremen.

He is survived by his wife and partner in crime of 61 years, Judy Sriver (née Hairrell), as well as their children, Lisa Langhout and Matthew Sriver, and their families, including five grandchildren (Stephanie Sisley (née Jimison), Ashley Recker (née Jimison), Peper Rivers (née Langhout), John Langhout, and Jackson Langhout) and five great-grandchildren (Nolan Sisley, Ahnalise Recker, Marisa Sisley, Noelle Recker, and Emmett Recker). He joins his brother, Gary Sriver, as well as his parents. There will be no formal service and he will be laid to rest in Bremen Cemetery.

Generations of students from Bremen High School knew Mr. Sriver from his many roles during his long tenure there. Mr. Sriver started his career in the Bremen school system immediately after his graduation from Manchester College in 1964. He taught speech, drama, sociology, psychology, economics, and history, as well as coached football and baseball for Bremen High School. He retired in 1998, but had the pleasure of teaching the children and grandchildren (and in some cases great-grandchildren) of his students while he further served as a substitute teacher until the spring of 2020.

Surely Mr. Sriver’s greatest achievement will be contested. Many of his former students heard the tall tales of his unique talents: bodybuilding, beauty pageantry, high stakes poker and dominoes, the elegant art of ice dancing, competitive Czechoslovakian folk performance, operatic song, and many more incredible feats. But one contribution exceeds all the others: his gift to make others feel capable and worthy of laughter and love. He will be sorely missed.
