Richard L. Thompson Obituary

Richard “Dick” L. Thompson

July 1, 1944-June 12, 2026

Richard “Dick” L. Thompson went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 12, 2026.

Dick was born July 1, 1944 in Lincoln, Nebraska, to William and Frances Thompson. He lived a life rooted in faith, family, and a passion for simple joys that brought people together.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 40 years, Janet Thompson, who stood faithfully by his side. He also leaves behind his siblings: Clarence (Lorene) Thompson of Antlers, Oklahoma; Jere (Patricia) Snyder of Raleigh, North Carolina; and Barbara Wingerter of Illinois.

Dick was a proud and devoted father to his five children: Rod (Erica) Thompson, Rodger (Tammy) Thompson, Kristee (Howard) Ross, stepdaughters Trina Wills, and Tamara (Timothy) Scroggins. He was blessed with 19 grandchildren and an abundance of great-grandchildren who brought him endless pride and joy.

Dick was an avid classic car enthusiast who loved cruising and reminiscing about the golden days. He enjoyed listening to oldies music and, above all, cherished the time he spent with his family. He was the kind of man who made everyone feel welcome and valued.

Dick wasn’t just old—he was classic.

A memorial service honoring Dick’s life will be held on July 12, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Studebaker Pavilion in Elkhart.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Elkhart Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements.
