Richard L. Thompson, 71, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2022, in Elkhart, Indiana.
He was born at Elkhart General Hospital on October 13, 1950. He spent his life living in his hometown.
He was proceeded in death by his father, John Wesley Thompson of St. Petersburg, FL, his second wife, Nancy (Metzger) Thompson, and stepson Joey Haskett.
He is survived by his mother, Jaqueline Fisher of Mishawaka, brother James (Vicky)Thompson of Goshen, sister Beverly (Mike) Mammolenti of Mishawaka, former wife, Terri Hight, and children, John E. (Jennifer) Thompson of Mishawaka, Richard L. (Patricia) Thompson of Daytona, FL, Shaune (Jeremy) Thompson of South Bend, and daughter Andrea Haskett of Shipshewana. His grandchildren are Justin Thompson of Mishawaka, Mitchell (Bailey) Thompson of Lakeville, Alex (Kenny) Thompson of Marcellus, Kayla Rux of Charlotte, NC, Kyle Thompson of Mishawaka, Paige Henry of Mishawaka, Tyler Rux and Jacob Thompson of Mishawaka, Kaylie (Chad) Houin of Nappanee, his best little friend and grandson Christopher Haskett of Shipshewana, granddaughter Zaiya Garcia of Shipshewana, as well as many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He was employed by Pierce Plastics in Elkhart for 20 years before working in the health care industry and then retiring as a maintenance professional for local manufacturing. He was very proud of his family and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, and fishing, and animals. As a life-long Elkhart resident he would often reminisce about the changes in the city and would always point out the old Roosevelt Elementary School where he spent his childhood, and his childhood homes on South Main Street and Lusher Avenue.
Cremation services will be provided by Elkhart Cremation Service.
