Ronald Milton Lovely, affectionately known as Poppy, was born on March 2, 1954, in Elkhart, Indiana, and passed away at his home on July 21, 2024.
He served honorably in the United States Air Force and was a proud graduate of Indiana University.
Ron was an engineer by trade and retired from Quality Plastics & Engineering. He later channeled his talents into his own business, Ron’s Repair, where he was celebrated for his extraordinary ability to fix anything. He was a master storyteller, renowned for his unapologetic opinions and unfiltered sense of humor. His infectious whistle and love for playing music were just a few of the many qualities that made him unforgettable and the life of any party.
A fervent fan of IU basketball and Bobby Knight, Ron's passion for the game was matched only by his love for classic cars and motorcycles. A few of his favorites over the years included his cherished 1968 Camaro, his bumblebee yellow 1978 Malibu, and his most recent Harley, a Heritage Softail selected by his oldest granddaughter after she described it as, “cranberry with sparkles all over it.”
Ron’s character was marked by his genuine love of life, positivity, and his role as a loving father and grandfather. He lived authentically and fully, not only devouring life, but savoring every part of it.
Ron adored topless sandwiches, steak fajitas, and was both a chili cheese dog and root beer float connoisseur. Anyone, who was fortunate enough to know him, knew he never turned down any of his favorite party favors including Crown Royal with a splash of Coke, a Canadian beer, or some John Wayne.
Ron cherished afternoons in his La-Z-Boy spent with his dog Faye bug watching Gunsmoke, Divorce Court, action movies, and the nightly news. He also enjoyed spending time at his local watering hole playing a good game of pool. Finally, there was nothing Ron enjoyed more than spending time with his grandkids bowling, mini golfing, or just playing the Wii at home.
Ron is survived by his daughters, Nicole Lovely of Middlebury, IN, and Brittany Carter of Leesburg, IN; as well as his grandchildren, Bre Woodill (Derek Conklin), Blane Miller, Kira Albany, Devin Albany, and TJ Carter; and his loyal companion, Faye bug. Ron is also survived by several amazing friends whom he considered his family.
Ron was preceded in death by his firstborn grandson, Warren; his parents, Milton and Jean Lovely; his best friend and brother, David Lovely; sister, Sandra Crapo; and brother, James Lovely.
Ron will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, humor, and resilience will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends. Elkhart Cremation Service has been entrusted with his care, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
