MISHAWAKA – Russell W. Rhodes, 97, of Mishawaka died Monday August 31, 2020, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. He served in the Army Air Corp in Europe during World War II and later in the Air Force Reserve. He worked in the Chicago area throughout his long career as a designer in the architecture industry.
Mr. Rhodes, a native of Michigan, earned his bachelor’s degree at the Art Institute of Chicago. His boundless curiosity led to a lifelong pleasure in reading and collecting books of all types, particularly in scientific topics.
He is survived by Valerie Roughton (niece) of Mishawaka and her daughter as well as Margaret (Michael) Row (niece) of Elkhart and two Row sons, three granddaughters, and a great-grandson.
The Indiana Donor Network in Indianapolis recovered full thickness skin grafts from Mr. Rhodes for use in transplantation, medical therapy, medical research, or education.
Elkhart Cremation Services has assisted the family with arrangements.
