Sharon Elaine Hayes

Sharon Elaine Hayes, 79 years old, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, November 8, 2024. 

Sharon was born on September 21, 1945 in Elkhart, Indiana, to Robert Q. Sloat and Grace M. (Cook) Sloat. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Betty J. Gilkey, Marilyn L. Miller and Evelyn M. Miller; and two children, Frankie D. Short and Mary A. Hayes. 

In 1969, Sharon married Raymond A. Hayes, Sr., in Elkhart. After many loving years of marriage, Raymond passed away on November 2, 2009. 

Sharon is survived by her two sisters, June M. Bowers of Elkhart and Ruth A. Wagoner of Toledo, OH. Sharon also leaves behind her daughter, Angela (Jeff) Davis of Elkhart, and her son, Raymond A. Hayes, Jr., of Osceola, IN. Also surviving are her six grandchildren: Tim (Sarah) Prince of Kalamazoo, MI; Frankie Prince of Schaumburg, IL; Callie Prince of Niles, MI; Zachary (Amanda) Fisher of Columbia, MO; Allison (Matthew) Davis of Mishawaka, IN; and Gracie (Logan) Maynard of Goshen, IN. Sharon is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces/nephews. 

Sharon worked as a machine operator at Gaska Tape, Inc. for nearly 40 years, retiring in 2018. When Sharon was not spending time with her family, she was a wonderful cook and quite the baker. She was an avid reader and had a love for working a puzzle. Upon her retirement, she spent a lot of time gardening and canning. 

Sharon was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and a wonderful friend. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

The family will be having a celebration of life at Jamestown United Methodist Church, with a dinner to follow. Date and time will be shared at a later date. 

Elkhart Cremation Services has been entrusted with her care.
