Sherry Nadai Obituary

Sherry Anne Nadai (Lingerfelt), of Niles, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at the Center for Hospice Care Ernestine M. Raclin House in Mishawaka, Indiana due to complications from cancer. She was diagnosed with stage four cholangiocarcinoma in November 2023. Sherry was born on Friday, August 29, 1969, to William and Sharon Lingerfelt in South Bend, Indiana.

On May 31, 1997, she married Kevin Nadai, who preceded her in death in October 2020. Together, they raised four children who survived her: Reagan Michelle (Jose) Carrero, McKinley Grace, Harrison Quinn, and Carter James. Sherry was also preceded in death by her mother, Sharon Rose Lingerfelt. She is survived by her father, William Lingerfelt; brothers Art Callahan, Doug (Jenny) Callahan, Gregory (Mary) Bierwagen, and Adam Lingerfelt; niece and nephews Sarah, Charles, Nicholas, and Andrew; along with extended family and many cherished friends.

Sherry graduated from Niles High School in 1987 and earned her Bachelor of Science in Advertising and Public Relations from Grand Valley State University in 1991. In May 2016, she completed her Master of Arts in English Literature from Mercy University, where she received the Thesis of the Year award. She was employed at the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame as an Associate Director of MBA Student Services, where she was able to serve as an academic advisor; supporting and mentoring students through their academic journey.

While Sherry was dedicated to all of her roles, her role as a mother was most important to her. She enjoyed a special relationship with each of her children, truly appreciating their individuality and respecting them for the kind, thoughtful people they have become. Of all her accomplishments, she would tell you she is most proud of her kids. Having spent the last four years writing posts on CaringBridge detailing her experience through grief after the loss of Kevin and then her experience with cancer, she often ended her posts reminding her readers how proud she was of each of them and how grateful she was to be their mother. Friends will remember her honesty, authenticity, and ability to remain positive throughout the difficult moments she shared.

Sherry was passionate about many things, including music (especially K-pop and boybands), reading, and writing. Sherry was always listening to music, often singing and humming out of the blue or pulling a lyric out of thin air when the moment called for it. An avid concertgoer, she shared her love of live performances with her children and friends, creating memories for a lifetime. Her recent obsession with K-pop led to several concerts and two trips to South Korea over the past few years. Sherry’s reading could outpace anyone and you could always rely on her for a book or author recommendation. Her love of writing is evident through her blog journey over the last four years. Needless to say, when Sherry loved something, she loved it with her whole heart.

A celebration of life is being planned in the coming weeks. Details will be shared at a later date.
