Thomas J Cover, 76, passed away at his home on January 18, 2026.
Compassionate patriot, Mason, Pi Kappa Alpha, Iowa Hawkeye fan and proud Iowa farmer, Tom showed kindness in subtle ways and delivered punch lines with aplomb. He moved to Elkhart from Clinton, Iowa, in 1959. His role as the Giant in Jack and the Beanstalk was highlighted by the Giant napping long past his cue. He played basketball and ran track at Osolo Junior High. He graduated from Roosevelt Military Academy in Aledo, Illinois, in 1968 as a company commander. His career in sales was launched by a fine education at Valparaiso University.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, F.A. “Jim” and Kathryn Cover, his brother Ted Cover, and his niece, Mary Kathryn Logan.
He is survived by his sister, Ann (William) Logan and nieces and nephews Christopher Cover, Kimberly Fennell, Holly Crume, David Logan, Thomas Logan, John Logan, Beth Logan Hoekesema and Claire Blackburn Logan and his special cousins of the Mikesell family of Webster, Iowa.
Per his wishes, Tom’s burial service will take place at Sorden Cemetery in Webster, Iowa.
