Thomas “Tom” Edward Taber, age 80, passed away peacefully on Feb 10, 2025, at his home in Elkhart IN. After a battle with lung cancer and Lewy body dementia. Tom was born on January 21,1945 in Coldwater, MI, to his parents, Clyde R. and Bertha C. (Otto) Taber.
Tom was the oldest of three boys. He was preceded in death by his parents; middle brother, Stanley L. Taber; and daughter, Tina E. (Taber) Sommers. Tom is survived by his youngest brother, Allen. R. Taber, as well as his wife of 58 years, Margie E. (Green) Taber. Also surviving are three daughters, Tonia M. (Wayne) Kohout of Granger, IN; Temera E. (Theodore) DeFronzo of Elkhart, IN; Lisa D. (Timothy) Davis of Williamsport, IN; and son-in-law, Troy Sommers of Mishawaka, IN. Tom is also survived by his grandchildren, Alex, Crystal, Lauren, Cameron, Nicole, Justin, Austin and Mikayla; great-grandchildren, Ryker, Valeriee, Serenity, Ryder, Caiden, Beau, Lakelyn, Paisley and Kasen; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tom worked at H&A Selmer from the age of 19 until his retirement at the age of 65. He was a sharpshooter in the United States Army Reserves, a Boy Scout leader, and enjoyed many outdoor activities including camping, hiking and canoeing. In his later years, he enjoyed coloring, playing with the grandkids and watching movies. Tom enjoyed life, family and friends. He was always happy and easy-going.
Tom's wish was to be cremated and have a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, he wished to have donations sent to the charity of the donor’s choice.
