Strength. Resilience. Loyalty. These are among the attributes that describe our beloved father, Vincent P. Ulfig, 70, of Goshen, IN. He passed away and went home to be with the Lord on July 17, 2024, after a courageous battle in which he defeated cancer before succumbing to persistent infections.
Vincent was born on Dec. 8, 1953, in Bay City, MI, to Vincent Ulfig and Margaret (Pfundt) Krzysiak. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Teresa Marie Daub, on Sept. 1, 1973.
Vincent is survived by his wife, Teresa; sister, Carol Borchardt; sons, Anthony Joseph [Dawn] Ulfig, Matthew Adam [Karleen] Ulfig, Mark Vincent [YaVonda] Ulfig and Craig Allen Ulfig; and seven grandchildren, Bailey, Brendan, Bree, Kareena, Lukas, Urijah and Anyaliese.
Vincent was a beacon of selflessness, putting the needs of family, friends and strangers before his own. He was known for his unwavering respect and kindness, always addressing everyone as “ma’am” or “sir.” This small but profound gesture reflected his courtesy and respect for others. His outgoing personality often led him to spend time around others in his favorite spots, from Dunkin’ Donuts to Speedway.
Vincent also was known for his remarkable strength and athleticism. Throughout his youth, he lived and breathed sports, excelling in baseball, football, basketball, wrestling and track. His tenacity manifested itself on and off the field; he served bravely for almost two years in the U.S. Army, from which he received a medical discharge.
A stalwart father, devoted spouse and loyal friend, Vincent left an indelible mark on the lives of many. His strength and kind heart will be remembered and cherished by all who crossed paths with him.
A memorial service and visitation will take place on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2024 at Northside Baptist Church (53198 County Road 9, Elkhart, IN 46514). The service will be held at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Donnie Greathouse officiating. Visitation will immediately follow until 3:00 p.m.
Donations can be made to Disabled American Veterans, or DAV (www.dav.org), a cause close to Vincent’s heart.
The family would like to thank Veterans Affairs, Majestic Care nursing home and Goshen Health Hospital for their support and care.
Elkhart Cremation Services has been entrusted with his care.
